20+ years of dance and culture in Scotland
Rudy Mbunzama is a visionary dance artist, community leader and creative entrepreneur based in Glasgow, Scotland. Born in Kinshasa, D.R. Congo, and raised with a deep passion for movement, music and community, he has spent over two decades transforming lives through the power of dance.
At 37, Rudy is a recognised force within Scotland's arts and culture scene — celebrated for his innovation, mentorship and dedication to social impact. As the founder of Bustabeat Dance, Fitness & Wellbeing, Connect Production Agency and the pioneering #1BLUD Dance Crew, he has built platforms that merge artistry with activism, uplifting diverse voices and inspiring new generations to move with purpose.
His work spans a wide range of styles including Hip-Hop, Streetdance, Breaking, Popping, Locking, House, Krump, Afrobeat and Freestyle — bringing a global yet deeply personal approach to movement.
Rudy's artistic journey is marked by high-profile appearances and accolades including performances on BBC3's Move Like Michael Jackson, ITV's Got To Dance, Channel 4's Dance X, JumpoffTV, as well as collaborations with Netflix, MTV EMAs, UEFA, Cadbury and COP26. He is also a UDO World Locking Champion and Six Nations Champion in multiple solo and duo categories.
But Rudy's true legacy lies in the lives he has touched. Through #1BLUD and its youth offshoot, YOUNGBLUD Crew, he has mentored hundreds of young dancers, many of whom have gone on to win national competitions and perform on major stages like the Justin Bieber Tour. His grassroots work spans school programmes, community clubs and outreach to marginalised groups, including African and Chinese youth in under-resourced areas.
In 2024, he launched the "Push The Tempo" Youth Dance Project, a mental-health-focused initiative using dance as a tool for expression, confidence and healing.
With a fearless commitment to culture, community and creativity, Rudy Mbunzama continues to shape the future of dance in Scotland and beyond. His story is one of resilience, rhythm and relentless passion — turning movement into a message, and every performance into a platform for change.
